Anixeity manifest different in everyone. So learning the signs is key to helping your love ones and friends. Mayo Clinic says it’s “A mental health disorder characterized by feelings of worry, anxiety, or fear that are strong enough to interfere with one’s daily activities.” In the US alone there is over 3 million cases reported. So as you can see anixiety is not something to push aside.
Let’s talk about what to look for. People may experience:
Whole body: fatigue, restlessness, or sweating
Behavioral: hypervigilance or irritability
Cognitive: racing thoughts or unwanted thoughts
Also common: anxiety, excessive worry, fear, feeling of impending doom, insomnia, nausea, poor concentration, sensation of an abnormal heartbeat, or trembling.
For my sweet Gracelyn anixeity has been a hunting thing in her life. She has had the symptoms since she was 2 years old. As symptoms have gotten worse it has been harder and harder for doctors to listen to use. Back in August 2016 her anixiety hit like a bomb. Gracelyn was playing with her sister before school when the bomb explode. I was in the bathroom brushing my teeth when I hear Ava Screamming “STOP STOP STOP” with great fear. I walked into Gracelyn loosing control. All I could do was pull her off her sister. That is when I was disparate for help and answers.
Finally after this event the medical community started to take action. It was deemed that Gracelyn needed to go to NSC. This program provided daytime psychiatric evaluation from 8:30am-2:30pm, Monday though Friday. During this time Gracelyn was diagnosised with anixiety. With advise of mecidal providers Joshua and I felt we needed to try treatment. We have chosen to use a low dose antixiety medication and ABA therapy. We have great hopes for her future in this area. We also know that do to the damage on her brain this could be a life long struggle.
