Gracelyn had her appointment with the Genetic Doctor this week. She asked us about everything we know when it came to medical history and what testing has been done….. Any genetic, zinc levels, and much more.
One big issue that concerns Joshua and I is the issue of getting enough nutrition. Dr Elias called and when over a few of the results. Gracelyn is extremely low in iron and D levels. We have started supplements. This will only fix her levels over time. She still face the fact that eating is an issue.
The eating issue has been on going on since about 7 months old. We have done feeding therapy, but with in two weeks her eating slows and she starts loosing weight. We have been talking options over for months. We have finally made the choice with help of the doctors in special care clinic to place a G-tube. (Some kids have medical problems that prevent them from being able to take adequate nutrition by mouth. A gastrostomy tube (also called a G-tube) is a tube inserted through the abdomen that delivers nutrition directly to the stomach. It’s one of the ways doctors can make sure kids with trouble eating get the fluid and calories they need.)
The doctor has a request in for Surgery. Know it is just a waiting game. In the mean time we will be doing everything we can to help Gracelyn with maintaining her weight.
